Plein Air Painting at the Arboretum
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of joining Plein Air Washington Artists at the UW Arboretum in Seattle. It was the perfect day, sunny blue skies and a light breeze. Tons of people were out and about enjoying the weather. I was determined to set up shop by the water, so that I could soak in the atmosphere, even if I didn't get the perfect painting. I found a little path, flanked by trees that framed the water and distant coastline of homes. I spent a couple hours painting, making sure to take breaks to take it all in. I find for me, Plein Air painting is about honing my skills of seeing things properly, using a little artistic license to add some whimsy, and just being in the moment. While I don't think of myself as a landscape painter, these are skills that help me in all areas of my art, and are just enriching to my day. I plan to do some finishing touches to the piece in studio, but for now, here's a sneak peak.
